Scholarships


Housing scholarships have been awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year at this time. We will post new scholarships for future academic years here in the future, so please check back often. Students may apply for additional scholarships they are eligible for through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid by visiting scholarships.utah.edu.

Chartwells Community in Action SCHOLARSHIP

The Housing & Residential Education Community in Action Scholarship provides emerging leaders with the opportunity to live on campus their first year of college with their room and board expenses covered. This scholarship will cover costs for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate leadership potential through previous engagement in community service and leadership experiences in high school, on a university campus, or in the community. The scholarship is funded through a partnership between University Dining Services and Housing & Residential Education.
During the year they receive the scholarship, recipients are expected to actively continue engaging in their leadership development. This may be done by becoming involved with the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU), the Residence Halls Association (RHA), or by continuing involvement within the community.

Scholarship Award & Availability
The Chartwells Community in Action scholarship covers the cost of a double room in Heritage Commons, meal plan 18, RHA dues, and a housing application fee waiver for the full 2020-2021 Academic Year. This scholarship is valued at approximately $10,750 for the year. The scholarship can be applied toward various other housing types and locations within Housing & Residential Education. If the room type or meal plan you choose is more expensive than what is covered, you are expected to pay the difference in cost. The scholarship will be awarded  to incoming first-year students who continue to meet the eligibility requirements. Two scholarships are available for the 2020-2021 Academic Year.

Scholarship Eligibility
1. Applicant must be an incoming first-year student.
2. Applicant must be enrolled in the University of Utah as a full-time student for the 2020-2021 Academic Year (at least 12 credit hours per semester).
3. Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the University of Utah.

The following will also be taken into consideration when awarding the scholarship:
1. First-generation college student status.
2. Demonstrated financial need.
3. Identities under represented at the University of Utah, including ethnic and cultural minorities, LGBTQ students, and women.

university credit union SCHOLARSHIP

The University Credit Union Housing Scholarship provides three incoming students (first-year or transfer) the opportunity to receive financial support towards the cost of on-campus housing within Housing & Residential Education facilities. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate an interest in actively participating in the on-campus housing experience, and articulate how this experience will support their success at the University of Utah.

This scholarship, sponsored by the University of Utah Credit Union, is a one-year award providing $3,000 in financial support to be applied towards a student’s housing costs. The scholarship can be applied toward any HRE housing location/room type based on the room selected by the student at the time of reservation. Students are responsible for reserving their own room via Housing & Residential Education’s housing sign-up process. If the room type you choose is more expensive than what is covered, the student is expected to pay the difference in cost. Three total scholarships are available each academic year.

Alumni Housing & Residential education SCHOLARSHIP

Please note: Student Leaders who receive Housing/Meal Plan compensation (including RAs, SJAs, RHA, etc.) are not eligible for Housing scholarships.

 

The Alumni Housing & Residential Education Scholarship provides three upper-class students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior) the opportunity to receive financial support towards the cost of on-campus housing within Housing & Residential Education (HRE) facilities. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate an interest in actively participating in the on-campus housing experience, and articulate how this experience will support their continued success at the University of Utah.

The Alumni Housing & Residential Education scholarship seeks to support upper-class students as they pursue their degree at the University of Utah. Institutional data shows that students who reside in on-campus housing graduate at higher rates. Thus, this scholarship aims to support the ongoing success of on-campus students, especially those whom have not had an on-campus living experience during their time at the University.

Scholarship Amount:

This scholarship, sponsored by the University of Utah Alumni Association, is a one-year award providing up to $7,000 in financial support to be applied towards a student’s housing costs. The scholarship can be applied toward any upper-class HRE housing location/room type based on the room selected by the student at the time of reservation. Students are responsible for reserving their own room via Housing & Residential Education’s housing sign-up process. If the room type you choose is more expensive than what is covered, the student is expected to pay the difference in cost. Three total scholarships are available for the academic year.

  • Applicant must be an upper-class student (Sophomore, Junior, Senior)
  • Applicant must be enrolled at the University of Utah as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours per semester)
  • Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at The University of Utah
