Housing & Residential Education (HRE) is launching two new community spaces called HRE's Learning Living Room and the HRE Hub.

Residential Peer Mentors (RPMs) are a new hourly student staff position dedicated to supporting the success of both spaces.


The Learning Living Room (LLR) is a dedicated space for residents to study, join study groups, and connect with academic and professional development resources.  The LLR is located in Kahlert Village (KV) residence hall lobby.

The HRE Hub (The Hub) is a dedicated space for residents to socialize, develop meaningful relationships, and connect with campus resources that support their personal development.  The Hub is located in the Peterson Heritage Center (PHC) below the dining hall.


 

RPM'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Staff HRE’s Living Learning Room and The HRE Hub, ensuring the spaces are welcoming for all HRE residents.  
  • Greet and engage all students who visit the spaces.    
  • Strive to develop and maintain professional and productive relationships with students engaging in the spaces.  
  • Support resident's academic, professional, personal and social success by connecting them with HRE and campus resources through referrals and by hosting the resources in the spaces.  
  • Support the RPM’s supervisor in developing the RPM Program and fulfilling the space’s mission, goals, and strategies.

We are looking for 10-20 students who are excited to join us in the development process! You do not need to live on campus or be an HRE resident to apply.

Compensation is $15.00 per hour for up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.

The Residential Peer Mentors (RPMs) is a new hourly student staff position dedicated to supporting the success of both spaces.  We are looking for 10 – 20 students who are excited to join us in the development process!

    HRE’s Learning Living Room is a dedicated space for residents to study, join study groups, and connect with academic and professional development resources.   

    The HRE Hub is a dedicated space for residents to socialize, develop meaningful relationships, and connect with campus resources that support their personal development. 

    RPM’s Essential Functions 

    • Staff HRE’s Living Learning Room and The HRE Hub, ensuring the spaces are welcoming for all HRE residents. 
    • Greet and engage all students who visit the spaces.   
    • Strive to develop and maintain professional and productive relationships with students engaging in the spaces. 
    • Support resident's academic, professional, personal and social success by connecting them with HRE and campus resources through referrals and by hosting the resources in the spaces. 
    • Support the RPM’s supervisor in developing the RPM Program and fulfilling the space’s mission, goals, and strategies.
    • This role functions with a high level of social contact and collaboration.

    RPM Main Responsibilities                                                                                                    

    RPMs are scheduled for 10 – 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, depending on their class schedule. Below are the projected main responsibilities for this role, including time estimates. Actual time spent on each area will vary depending on each RPM’s class schedule and availability.  

     Staff The HRE Hub and HRE’s Learning Living Room 6 to 15-hours per week 

    • Foster an environment that is welcoming for all residents. Initiating conversations with residents,  
    • developing and maintaining professional relationships with them, ensuring respectful behavior between visitors, managing conflict if needed, and maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked space. 
    • Support residents in developing meaningful connections within HRE and the campus community. Actively connect residents with HRE and campus resources. Developing a robust understanding of available resources, hosting resources, and referring residents to resources.    
    • Collect, document, and report important data as designated by the HRE/RPM supervisor including attendance, engagement, event plans, inventory, work orders, policy violations, and Title IX/OEO incidents.   
    • Plan, coordinate, and host events (when not completing the above tasks).   

      Plan and host events 3 to 6 hours per week 

    • Collaboratively plan weekly events under the direction of the RPM’s supervisor.   
    • Coordinate with HRE/campus partners to host resources at most events. 
    • Host and facilitate planned weekly.  
    • Engage residents and support their learning and development when staffing events.  
    • Clean up and reorganize the space after events.  
    • Complete all necessary event documentation such as submitting attendance data.  

    Collaboration, Teamwork, and Meetings 3+ hours per week 

    • Maintain open and productive communication with supervisor, other RPMs, and HRE and campus resources.  
    • Attend regular staff meetings, committee meetings, and development opportunities.  

    Other Tasks As Needed

    • Aligns disposition and actions with the mission, goals and strategies of HRE, The HRE Hub, and HRE’s Learning Living Room.   
    • Complies with all HRE, University of Utah, State and Federal policies/regulations/laws. 
    • Function as a mandatory reporter. 

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements 

    • Work is predominantly completed in an office environment. Most of the time working involves listening, talking, sitting, and working collaboratively. 
    • There is often repetitive hand motions such as typing and writing, cleaning up/reorganizing supplies, standing, bending, reading and synthesizing information. 
    • Occasional outdoor work on campus includes hosting and attending events, tabling, and transporting supplies between locations (push carts are available).  
    • Candidate should be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

    Minimum Qualifications                                                                                                       

    Status 

    • Full-time University of Utah undergraduate or graduate student.  
    • Able to effectively manage both academic and work commitments, maintaining a semester/cumulative 2.5 GPA.  
    • In good financial standing with HRE and the University of Utah.  
    • Free of any disciplinary sanctions imposed through the University conduct system in addition to local, state, and federal laws. 
    • Able to complete a background check and I-9

    Skills 

    • Comfortable with continual change and able to adapt quickly as processes and needs change. 
    • Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and being mentally present. 
    • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing, especially when needing support or guidance.  
    • Able to develop and maintain professional relationships and navigate conflict.  
    • Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative setting and develop the ability to work independently on various tasks and assigned projects. 
    • Able to learn and effectively utilize software such as Kronos, Roompact and Microsoft Teams for administrative tasks within two weeks of start date.  
    • Able to develop a thorough understanding of HRE and campus resources within a month of start date.   
    • Willingness to share personal lived experiences with residents when appropriate (ex. discussing personal experience utilizing a resource)

    Preferred Skills / Experience                                                                                                

    • Previous experience in detail-oriented assignments and working within time constraints.  
    • Ability / desire to support a special project is a plus.
      Example projects include: 
    • Marketing and social media management  
    • Training materials and procedures  
    • Infographics and newsletters 
    • Student development and success coaching   
    • Networking and stakeholder engagement  
    • Accounting 
    • Data collection and analysis
