2025-2026  ACADEMIC YEAR APPLICATION TIMELINE

For all the details, including links, exact dates and times for receiving housing offers and more, please scroll down.

Transfer students can apply for upper-division or first-year housing. If you are not sure which housing option might be best for you, consider the definitions we give in the Housing U application:

  • Housing & Residential Education (HRE) typically designates buildings for first-year, upper-division, and graduate students. First-year students live in first-year buildings and upper-division and graduate students are in upper-division buildings.
  • "First-Year" means you are in your first year at the University of Utah and are under 21 years of age.
  • "Upper-division" means this is not your first year at the University of Utah, or you are transferring with one or more years of post-high school credit from another institution, or are 21 years of age or older.
  • Graduate means you are enrolled in a graduate or professional program.

FIRST-YEAR 2025-2026 TIMELINE

JANUARY 14, 2025

First-Year Housing Application Opens

First-year students begin applying in Housing U in CIS. Complete the application by filling out personal information, indicating Living Learning Community interest, and paying the $130 application fee. Please note that your reservation time will be determined when you complete your application. Apply early!

APRIL 1, 2025

First-Year Living Learning Community (LLC) Priority Application Deadline

Apply by the LLC deadline to participate in LLC room selection. Applications received after the LLC deadline will participate in the traditional housing process. However, if space in a selected LLC becomes available, students who applied after the deadline can still be considered for the LLCs they indicated.

APRIL 14-25, 2025

First-Year Living Learning Community (LLC) Reservations

Check your UMail for an offer from your selected LLCs. Offers represent a guaranteed bed in the community (room type is not guaranteed). Student must reserve their room during this period. Students can also select into traditional housing at this time if they wish.

MAY 5, 2025

First-Year Housing Guarantee Deadline

Apply by this date to be guaranteed a bed on campus for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.

MAY 12-23, 2025

First Round of First-Year Traditional Housing Room Selection

Reservation times will be assigned based on application complete day. Guaranteed housing offers will start after this date.

AUGUST 1, 2025

First-Year Traditional Housing applicants on the guarantee list will receive an offer by this date.

UPPER-DIVISION 2025-2026 TIMELINE

NOVEMBER 4, 2024

Upper Division Housing Application Opens 9 AM MST

Upper-division students begin applying in Housing U in CIS. Complete the application by filling out personal information, indicating Living Learning interest, and paying the $130 application fee. Please note that your reservation time will be determined when you complete your application. Apply early!

NOTE: If you have already paid the $130 fee from a previous application, there will be no application fee assessed.

JANUARY 24, 2025

Reservation time and Living Learning Community (LLC) Offer Email Sent

Check your UMail for a decline, waitlist, or offer from your selected LLCs. Offers represent a guaranteed bed in the community (room type is not guaranteed). Student must reserve their room during this period. Students can also select into traditional housing at this time if they wish.
